Weekend Thoughts

And so, another weekend is upon us. It’s been a pretty hard week at work, not so much difficult, but busy and stressful. I work, as some of you know, in a tech support call centre and the problem is not that there are hard to fix faults or even difficult customers. The problem is the sheer number of calls. There is no let up and we’re expected to be cheerful… Yeah right!

Anyway, it’s over for the week. I’ve had food, wine & chocolate. I’m watching “Alien” on DVD (with more wine), relaxing and looking forward to seeing my baby again tomorrow. In case you think I managed some parthenogenesis lately, you can stop worrying… I was referring to my motorcycle, which I managed to hurt recently. I’ve missed the freedom.

Sunday is the beginning of Advent, the season which ends with Christmas. For Christians, it is the beginning of the new year, though it’s rarely celebrated as such because we go with the secular new year on January 1st.

For anyone starting Christmas this weekend, I wish you well. And for members of other faiths celebrating at this time, both real & imaginary, then may all the season’s blessings be with you.

In a month it will be 2009. As a species, I am disappointed in us. The USA landed on the moon in 1969, we’ve had a permanent space-station for more than a decade… This year, one of mankind’s great visionaries – Arthur C. Clarke – died. We are more than 8 years behind his vision… Although, we do seem to be on top of Orwell’s for what that is worth.

May next year be better for all of us. Let’s face it, it can’t get a lot worse.
